Fardad Fateri, Ph.D.
President & Chief Executive Officer
Fardad Fateri is President, Chief Executive Officer, and Board Director at International Education Corporation. IEC owns and operates accredited colleges across the United States offering career focused programs preparing students for high demand professions across multiple industries. He has held this post since January 2008.
Dr. Fateri is part of a small group of chief executives in American higher education today with significant experience in the imperative but rare interwoven triad of academic, operations, and business verticals. In his over 25 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Fateri has served as professor, department chair, dean, regional director, college president, division president, chief academic officer, board director, and president & CEO of several medium to large sized non-profit, market funded, and privately held systems of higher education.
Dr. Fateri has taught for many years both on-ground and online, publishes regularly on various topics, and presents frequently at regional and national conferences. He also serves on several boards and commissions.
Dr. Fateri completed his undergraduate, doctorate and post-doctorate education at University of California in Irvine, California, Alliant International University in San Diego, California and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Chief Operating Officer
Shoukry Tiab is a senior executive with more than 20 years of experience in operating and expanding businesses and services for the health, education and training sectors. Mr. Tiab joined IEC in September 2011.
From January 2007 to May 2011, Mr. Tiab served on the executive team as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Jenny Craig International, a globally-recognized weight management company. His past experience in education includes his role as Chief Information Officer for Alliant International University, a not-for-profit educational institution with roots that date back to 1927. In this role, Mr. Tiab was responsible for the internal IT support process and services, including student record management systems, education web delivery, eLearning and web-integrated video conferencing. From October 2000 through June 2006, Mr. Tiab served as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer for New Horizons Computer Learning Centers, Inc. During this time he designed and deployed global education systems, including Online Live and Online Anytime. He also implemented a Learning Management System tracking the training and delivery for more than one million students.
Mr. Tiab holds a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Systems Engineering from California State University, Fullerton and a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University. He is certified by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association as an Information Systems Auditor.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Sanjay Sardana is IEC’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 2015. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and Shri Ram College of Commerce from Delhi University in India. As CFO, Sanjay oversees the accounting, audit & tax, procurement & purchasing, financial planning & analysis, treasury, student finance, real estate, information technology, call center operations, registrar services and other business support functions.
Sanjay is a seasoned operations and finance executive with more than 15 years of experience with education and healthcare. His experience includes high growth, turnaround, and startup businesses.
Prior to joining IEC, Sanjay worked for Carrington Colleges. In his role, he directly managed accounting & finance, real estate, facilities, project management, student finance operations, and default management. Sanjay also launched online education for Carrington and pioneered a new student services model that helped improve retention and produced stellar NPS results with his students.
Prior to joining Carrington, Sanjay served as a Senior Finance Executive at DeVry University Online. He was responsible for the finance team and created and grew the student finance team to over 200 employees for online programs. Sanjay has also been the Sr. Vice President of finance and operations for a startup online school Ultimate Medical Academy based in Tampa. At UMA, he managed student finance, financial planning, and campus operations.
Before joining private sector education, Sanjay spent five years at The Mentor Network, a billion-dollar diversified managed healthcare services organization as the business director for the eastern United States. During his time at Mentor, he saw the organization grow from $200M to over a $1B in revenue.
Senior Vice President & General Counsel
Aaron Mortensen is an accomplished attorney with almost 15 years of complex litigation and in-house counsel experience. Mr. Mortensen joined IEC in March 2013.
Prior to joining the IEC Team, Mr. Mortensen was an attorney at Grant, Genovese & Baratta LLP. In private practice, Mortensen oversaw matters that included complex tort, business, and real estate law, trademark and copyright litigation, product liability litigation, insurance coverage and regulation, and writs and appeals.
Mr. Mortensen has extensive trial and appellate court experience, arguing before the California Courts of Appeal on numerous occasions and is published by the California Supreme Court.
Mr. Mortensen earned his Juris Doctorate Degree at Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, where he made Dean's List.
Vice President of Career Services
Joan Yourstone is a passionate leader with 20 years of significant experience in career education helping students change their lives and build futures they can be proud of.
Before joining IEC’s Executive Leadership Team in March 2016, Ms. Yourstone was an executive at another multisite, distributed system of post-secondary career-education.
Ms. Yourstone began her long-standing passion for career services as a Career Services Director developing professional development tools and processes to serve the needs of students and graduates. She was also a Director of Education. Ms. Yourstone has expertise and experience with diploma as well as degree-level programs in the career education field.
Ms. Yourstone graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Vice President of Education
Darlene Foret has over 29 years of experience in the private, postsecondary career education.
Ms. Foret has extensive experience in campus operations, regulatory compliance, and academic services. She has held various positions over the years with IEC, most recently as the VP of Accreditation and Licensure. Prior to joining IEC, Darlene was an Adjunct Professor, Director of Education, Campus President, and Chief Operating Officer with a group that merged and integrated multiple schools. In her current role, Darlene is responsible for providing direction for all educational programs to include content adoption and delivery, new program launch, and the building of facilitative techniques for better student engagement.
Ms. Foret earned her Master of Science degree in Administration from Central Michigan University and her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Jacksonville University.
Vice President of Finance and Controller
Ms. Gut-Vargas joined IEC in 2016. She is an experienced finance and accounting professional with more than 15 years of experience within the education and real estate sectors. Prior to joining IEC, Joanna worked for Carrington Colleges. In her role, she managed accounting and student accounts.
Prior to joining Carrington, Joanna was an Accounting Supervisor and an Internal Auditor at Title Resource Group – Realogy Inc division, a real estate service company with over $5 billion in revenue. She was responsible for all aspects of accounting, managing internal and SOX audits, and due diligence audits of acquisition assets.
Joanna earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration specializing in Accounting from National Luis University in Chicago, a Master of Business Administration degree at Keller Graduate School of Management, and a Master of Science degree at Keller Graduate School of Management.
